linnen kavels: introduction at iona stichting, amsterdam and de horsterhof, duiven
The Linnen Kavel introduction days brought together individuals and organisations interested in locally cultivated and locally woven linen textiles; exploring the potential of a local linen value chain. Members of The Linen Project and Enschede Textielstad shared the respective stories and processes in person and presented samples of the textiles offered. Insight was given into the linen economy, and prospective partners had the opportunity to place Linnen Kavel pre-orders. The events provided a valuable occasion for those present from the extended local (textile) community to become acquainted with the initiative and with each other, to exchange perspectives and experiences.
The first Linnen Kavels introduction day was hosted at the Iona Stichting in Amsterdam on May 25 2022. The foundation, inspired by anthroposophy and art, supports socially engaged projects in education, culture, health care, agriculture and nutrition. The second Linnen Kavels introduction day took place at local organic farm De Horsterhof in Duiven on June 10 2022.
A place of significance; part of the flax harvest that was processed, spun and woven into Linnen Kavels was cultivated and harvested there by The Linen Project with volunteers from the local community in 2019.
The Linen Project and Enschede Textielstad are grateful to those who attended for sharing their curiosity and support in this next step towards a generative local linen value chain – potential partners, new and sustained connections alike. Many thanks to De Horsterhof and Iona Stichting Amsterdam for their generous support and hospitality.
