The Linen Project

Join us at Material District this year to discover The Linen Project and learn about our mission to create a regenerative linen supply chain. Material District Utrecht will take place from March 12–14, 2025, at the Werkspoorkathedraal in Utrecht. This event brings together 150 manufacturers, start-ups, and designers. With 50 speakers on the program, it is the place to explore the future of material innovation.

Visit our stand to learn more about our projects. On Wednesday, March 12, we will be part of the lecture program with three insightful talks—details below.

Lecture 1) The Linen Economy
10:45-11:15
Joan den Exter, with over thirty years of experience in the fashion industry, is passionate about innovation and alternative economic systems focused on people and nature. In 2018, she completed the CSR & Sustainability ESAA Rotterdam course. Joan is the project leader for research into new value chains at The Linen Project and a member of the working group for making stewardship models transferable.

Lecture 2) Linen Stewardship
11:20-11:50
The Linen Project aims to involve as many citizens as possible in growing and making textiles, fostering a deeper understanding of what is needed to create them. It’s inspiring to know that it is possible to grow and make your own textiles within a community, while sharing knowledge with one another.

Lecture 3) 1m2 vlas and SPREI
12:10-12:40
Willemien Ippel is a cultural entrepreneur, co-founder of Crafts Council Nederland, and co-initiator of The Linen Project. With a background in textiles and a deep love for the material, she develops and implements programs that contribute to a greater understanding and appreciation of craft processes and the rich knowledge and expertise behind them.
