Following the success of 1m2 vlas in 2024 and 2025, we invite you in 2026 to grow 1m2 of flax in your own garden. Guided by experts, you will discover the entire process from seed to thread.
1m2 vlas is a course in which you grow 1m2 of flax in your own garden. You receive practical newsletters with tutorials and you can take part in online webinars. You then process your flax at home using self-made tools or you can come to the LiBarn of The Linen Project in Duiven near Arnhem where all the necessary tools are available. If you would like to learn how to spin afterwards you can optionally take a spinning course in Arnhem, Utrecht or Friesland. The final result is your own linen thread which you can then use further for example to weave your own tea towel.
The project helps you make more conscious and better-informed choices in the field of sustainability. You meet fellow growers and along the way learn about Dutch history connected to flax.

Register before 21 March 2026 via craftscouncil.nl
You pay a one-time fee of €45. For this you will receive flax seeds for your 1m2 at the end of March, practical newsletters with tutorials and access to three online webinars. A processing day in Duiven is also included where you are given the opportunity to process your own 1m2. The result is a flax strick which you can then spin into thread yourself.
If you prefer to learn spinning under guidance you can add this later for €60.
The working language of the project is Dutch but it is a great way to learn Dutch.
